Howdy! Making some more firewood on this video and also using my very own chainsaw. I eventually chose Stihl MS 194 C-E, since it's light enough for me to use and even I can get it running pretty easily. Also talking about what has been going on lately in my life and giving some background info about the cabin(s). And some good news as well! Thanks for watching and liking. Since the beginning of my camping days, I've had to use coolers to keep my food and drinks cold. Coolers work just fine, but they often leave your food soggy and you have to constantly stock them with new ice. When I got the opportunity to add a portable refrigerator into the Travel Cabin, I knew that I had to take it. SetPower gifted me this refrigerator to test out in our Tiny Cabin, and it worked great! Check out the video and see for yourself. After digging out from a winter storm (that wasn't as bad as predicted in my location), I continue weatherproofing my off grid log cabin by adding door locks and trim to the porch door and the breezeway door. I insulate the ceiling and start installing charred 1" pine rough lumber, which immediately traps more of the heat from the woodstove and makes the cabin much more efficient than my last cabin. As I'm sure you've noticed over the years, I really like chaga and drink it every day for the taste but mainly for the health benefits. Now that the birch trees are dormant for the season, it's harvest time and it's back in stock on my website. Three days of cosy cabin life in Norway. After trekking across Hardangervidda in the autumn chill, Oda and I welcomed the warmth and the soul of her family's winter cabin. We passed the time cooking, baking, working and simply being. A hearty thanks to Oda and her parents, Bertil and Heidi, for making me feel so at home in their beautiful space. I get the whole family - Rylie, Ellie (and our unborn baby) to join me on a winter campout at Sand Dunes State Forest in our Travel Cabin. The temperatures are the coldest yet of the early winter here in Minnesota. The low is 9 degrees Fahrenheit but thankfully our diesel heater is ready to keep the cabin nice and toasty. We setup the cabin next to the lake (Larson Slough), go for some hikes, make some good food and I test out our BRAND NEW water heater - the HOTTAP Nomadic Kit from Joolca. It's cabin life at it's finest! To pick up your very own Joolca HOTTAP Nomadic Kit, follow this link: 🤍 It really is a game changer for off grid living or even just camping to be able to enjoy a hot shower. Long time no see my dear cabin! Words cannot express the feeling I get when I'm able to spend some time alone at the cabin after a long break. This is the best place in the world for me. A place which is all mine and the nature that I've gotten used to to. I've been also considering whether I could move here permanently if all else fails. Well, let's see. Jenna and David Jonas have spent most of their lives living off the land. At 17, David built a cabin in the woods of Vermont without power tools and lived there for two years, learning to track animals, identify trees, plants and birds, and to navigate. He’d paddled thousands of miles in hand-built birch bark canoes and lived for months off wild foods alone when he met his neighbor Jenna (she lived across the creek from his cabin in a “treehouse” dwelling), who’d been exploring the interior of Alaska for few years by boat, ski, dogsled, bike, and foot. In 2012, they found an ad on Craigslist for private land surrounded by state forest on a bluff above the Tanana River. They saw the potential for year-round food sources and bought the raw land, first living in a wall-tent. After two years on the land, they spent 3 weeks building a more permanent earthlodge: digging deep into the hill to take advantage of the relative warmth of the earth, using plentiful spruce trunks to line the home, covering it in sod for insulation and facing it due south for passive solar gain. Two years later, they began building a traditional log cabin using hand tools (such as a gin pole for a crane). It took them 3 years to complete (building only before freeze-up), but was ready in time for the arrival of their daughter. The couple hunt, forage or grow most all of their food. They built a smokehouse to cure the meat and fish, and an underground root cellar to preserve their produce and potatoes throughout the year. In 2014, they began to share their experience with others, using their experience as wilderness guides, they offer stays in their original earthlodge (the Sun Lodge) or in traditional handmade canvas wall tents for days of dog sledding, aurora viewing, winter camping, ice fishing, snowshoeing, skiing and crafting (making your own wooden spoons). Their goal is to offer guests at their hand-built wilderness homestead “a deeper, more authentic experience of Alaska, one that is not centered solely on sublime landscapes and plastic accouterments, but rather the real products, people, and lifeways that make our lives in the north rich and meaningful.” Alaska Homestead Adventures 🤍 Drone footage: Jeff Sousa 🤍 On *faircompanies: 🤍

A Quiet Day at my Cabin Vlog Hey guys, I know a lot of you have streamed in over these last few crazy months here at the cabin to watch me run around, singing, goofy, and working on projects, and I am so happy to have you here 🥺 If you've been around since before the cabin videos you probably know my content has always ebbed and flowed, and I like to play with different styles, and moods, and subjects; I make whatever I'm feeling. So if you're new here, this video is probably going to feel (a lot) different than you're used to, but I hope you'll stick around, even if this one isn't your particular cup of tea. I'm hoping it gives you all another perspective of the cabin, because while I get this side of it every day, whenever I want, I realized I haven't shared it that much with you all. Making videos for you guys is SO fun. I love doing it, I love sharing it, and love interacting with you all. That being said, it's a LOT of work. It can be draining sometimes- doing the projects, filming the projects, editing (sometimes for days at a time for a single video), and trying to get something new out each week. (and also why it's not every week on the dot 😅) That's why it's so important to me to make the videos *I* need to make. I'm just like anyone else; sometimes I'm goofy, sometimes I'm productive, sometimes I'm sad, sometimes I'm introspective. I've tried really hard to just be whoever I am, I don't want to put on some fake persona when the camera turns on because it's what the internet expects of me, you know? This week I was feeling tired, and quiet, and calm (happily! I just know I'm going to get comments that i seemed sad - I promise I wasn't) and when i thought about making a video I thought about what i would want to watch if i turned on youtube right now: and this is it. I hope it gives you a little calm for your week, like it did for me. I head to the Off Grid Log Cabin in the Forest to spend a night alone with my Dog. The Log Cabin build is still continuing, but sometimes it is nice to just spend some time alone in this rustic tiny house. Taking my dog to the cabin in the wilderness for the first time was so fun. With the woodstove burning, candles lit and my dog by my side, life was perfect. The tiny house felt rustic, cosy and it was my hygge. I am still striving to learn how to live off the land, foraging for wild plants and edibles, growing my own vegetables and becoming self reliant. I can use this off grid cabin as a shelter and base where I can practice living off the land and use primitive technology, learn Bushcraft skills, improve my survival skills and my self reliance. Learning how to cook is something I am currently focusing on. In this video I do some cast iron cooking on the woodstove, grind my own coffee beans and take time to reflect. I fell asleep to the hooting of owls, and the wind through the trees was a big ASMR trigger for me. It's still winter outside, but in the Cabin was cosy and warm. Sometimes I think living off grid in a tiny house seems much easier, away from the daily stress of life. I hope you enjoy this video. I’ve been spending a lot of time at my off-the-grid cabin in the Berkshire Mountains lately. When Nikon reached out and asked me to test their new Z6 full frame 4k mirrorless camera, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I would put the camera through its paces and make multiple films on subjects I’m very passionate about. The goal was to test all of the camera’s greatest features and show the quality of content that can be produced with this cinematic beast. While making this film, the stabilization capabilities proved to be instrumental on every shot. We were able to run and gun and capture quick little moments completely hand-held, without having to worry about dizzying footage. Once you use a camera like this with the capability of shooting at 120 fps for slow motion, you will never be able to go back. The mix of slow motion and raw footage makes for such a dynamic story telling experience. The new Nikkor Z series lens provided beautiful bokeh and stayed sharp at every aperture we shot at. Overall, this camera is an incredibly dynamic tool that every modern film maker should seriously consider. #dugout #storm #bushcraft FINANCIAL SUPPORT 🤍 THERMOS LIKE MINE 🤍 Unique Bobber thermoses 🤍 Hello. It's time to sum up. The bathhouse is ready and finally bathed in it. However, you need to start with something else. This time I was in the skin of a chimney sweep. I cleaned the chimney, cleaned the furnace body and removed all the ash from the ash pan. Traction has definitely improved! It beautiful The next stage of the work was to chop more wood, because today I have two stoves! One is a stationary brick oven, the second is a camping stove. So with the help of the second furnace, I heated the bathhouse today. A bathhouse? Hardly, more like a sauna. In any case, she scored her 78 degrees Celsius and pleased me. Now I'm as clean as ever. I was also pleased and surprised at the same time by the weather! It changed several times during the day. While I was walking to the dugout, the sun was shining, it became cloudy in the forest, then the sun again, then a snow curtain with a hurricane wind, then the sun again, then a blizzard again) Look and you will be surprised that this happens at the end of March. In general, I had a great time and I wish you at least a little to feel the range of feelings that I felt. Enjoy watching! SEE ALSO 🤍 Hi! I decided to create a second channel "ALEX WILD LIFE". I continue to build my camp in the wilderness in a distant and quiet forest. There were a lot of mice in my Off Grid log Cabin, their tracks were visible on the table, they ate all my candles and food. I don't like to eat from a table with mice running around, so I made a fold out table so now that I'm not in the hut the mice can't get on my table. Also, the video turned out to be very cozy and relaxing. I made a turkey and vegetable roll. Enjoy watching it. The next episode will be very interesting. Winter life goes on. Hello everyone, I would like to immediately thank the subscribers who support us financially through "Super Thank You"! Finally, we assembled our brick oven and even managed to spend the night with it! At first it was very humid, due to the fact that the bricks were very wet, and when we started to heat the furnace, they quickly began to dry out and moisture began to come out of them. In general, the night was very warm and cozy. We wish you all a pleasant viewing and a good mood!
