This was the best Japanese sushi experience I’ve ever had! ►Follow David Califa: 🤍 ►Sri Panwa: 🤍 ►Subscribe for more food videos: 🤍 This was a spur of the moment trip, but my friend David (🤍 organized a Japanese food pop-pup including some of Japan’s best sushi and best wagyu Kobe beef to be served at Sri Panwa resort in Phuket. When David wrote me and invited me, I was more than thrilled to come, and we hopped on a plane the next day to fly from Bangkok to Phuket. It turned out to be one of the ultimate gourmet food experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve never had sushi like this ever! Master sushi chef Hiroyuki Sato, of the Michelin starred restaurant 鮨とかみ (Sushi Tokami) in Tokyo, flew to Phuket, bringing with him fish straight from Tsukiji market that morning. He sliced up most of the tuna and other fish in the afternoon and was ready to serve it at night for the sushi pop up. We checked into Sri Panwa, and got all settled in our room. The best thing about the villa for me was the personal saltwater pool. Sri Panwa is a very high end resort, but it’s beautiful and you get so much privacy. Before heading to the sushi event, we first had a drink and hung out with David at Baba Nest, a rooftop bar and lounge at Sri Panwa, overlooking the oceans and surrounding mountains. The scenery and relaxing environment has made Baba Nest one of the world’s more renowned rooftop bars in the world. We were served omakase style, the chef’s table, and just the special fish that he had prepared for the meal. It was no doubt the best sushi meal I’ve ever had in my life. Absolutely a life changing experience. Big thank you to the chef, David, Sri Panwa for hosting this event and organizing it! It was just just a top level sushi omakase (served piece by piece, chef’s choice) experience in Bangkok, but it was a tuna learning experience for me. Of all the times I’ve had sushi, I didn’t know much about the tuna. But this time, I learned about the origin, the quality, how it was wild caught, and even tasting the difference between completely fresh and aged, which gives it a different umami sensation. For out omakase this day, most of the sushi was based on tuna, and Umi Gaysorn Village is aiming to focus on wild tuna, but we also had a few other Japanese food delicacies including shirako (cod sperm) and plenty of incredible uni (sea urchin). It was an incredible meal. Umi serves one of the best Japanese food - sushi omakase especially focusing on tuna - in Bangkok, Thailand. For more details check out The Hungry Tourist: ►Instagram: 🤍 ►Facebook: 🤍 NOTE: In saying "Best Sushi in Japan", I'm not saying this particular restaurant is the best sushi in Japan, but that the sushi journey, from Tsukiji fish auction, to the middle man who the best sushi chefs in the world get their tuna from (where we visited), to the omakase style of eating sushi - it's the entire process that's the best in the world of sushi. We started off by going to the Tsukiji Fish Market tuna auction, that takes place early in the morning. The famous fish market is the biggest tuna auction in the world, and the best tuna that you get just about anywhere in the world for top end sushi restaurants comes through Tsukiji Market. We met up with Sushi Master Hiro Sato, who brought us around the market and took us to the Tuna King (Yamaguki), who is known for buying tuna and reselling on the best tuna to the best of the best of sushi restaurants in Tokyo. It was fascinating to have an opportunity to visit Tsukiji Market for the fish auction, and to see the tuna being sliced in front of your eyes. Sushi Arai (鮨 あらい) - For dinner, we had reservations a t one of the best restaurants in Tokyo for sushi, a restaurant called Sushi Arai. Our Best of Tokyo food tour had the entire 8 seater restaurant to ourselves, and it was pure joy to watch the chefs as they assembled each mini plate of food. Then it was time for sushi, and Chef Arai is a master, he literally just flies with his hands, gathering the fish in one hand and the ball of rice in the other, combining each bite with wasabi and molding them together. This was one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had in my life, and the quality, balance, and perfection of the sushi, is next level. Price - About 34,000 JPY ($300) per person It was an amazing day of learning about the best sushi in Japan, both from the Tsukiji Market auction side, and the distribution of the tuna, all the way to eating at one of the top luxury sushi restaurants in Tokyo.
